New course:
Better banter at work

Course description

“It was just a bit of banter”… if we had a penny for every time we’ve heard this excuse as a justification for inappropriate behaviour!

We know that banter isn’t always a bad thing – it helps teams gel, engage with each other, and create a fun working environment. But it can quickly get out of hand and expose your organisation to significant legal risk. This course helps to protect your organisation by clearly setting out where the line is drawn between humour and harassment.

Learning objectives

This course will enable the learner to:

  • Understand what’s defined as ‘harassment’ for employment law purposes, different tolerance levels, and that it’s the effect of the behaviour on the recipient that matters
  • Identify the protected characteristics, work through real world scenarios of what amounts to harassment, and the blurred lines between work and non-work-related behaviour
  • Know how to raise concerns in the moment, informally and formally if they identify inappropriate behaviour, and the sanctions that may follow
